About Michael G. Stroud

Michael G. Stroud is a historian, professor, writer, and public speaker whose work focuses on military history, American history, and the recovery of overlooked historical narratives. He teaches history at Cornerstone University and Adrian College, where he brings an engaging, source-based approach to the classroom while helping students connect the past to larger questions of memory, leadership, sacrifice, and historical understanding.His research and publications span multiple eras of military history, including the American Civil War, the Napoleonic Wars, World War I, World War II, and the Cold War. Much of his current research focuses on Native American military service in the Union Army, particularly Company K of the 1st Michigan Sharpshooters, while his broader interests include battlefield history, veterans’ experiences, historical memory, and the preservation of forgotten stories through archival research and public history.Through teaching, writing, speaking, and archival research, his work seeks to make history accessible, human, and meaningful for both academic and public audiences.
